Become a Tutor

There are three steps involved in becoming a tutor:

1. Attend an Informational Meeting
This meeting provides an overview of the Adult Tutoring Program and tutor training process. Remember to sign-up prior to the tutor training dates.

Tutor do not need to know another language or have teaching experience.

2. Attend and Complete Tutor Training Classes
The Walworth County Literacy Council provides tutor training classes (171/2 hours) throughout the year. The training is designed especially for tutors in a volunteer adult tutoring program.
The training is provided free. There is a $20 materials fee for the purchase of a tutor resource book and other materials.

3. Begin Tutoring with a Student
Tutors are matched one-to-one with an adult student based on the student and tutor preferences and time availability.
Students and tutors meet for two hours per week. Tutors spend additional time preparing for their tutoring sessions.
Tutors track volunteer hours and student progress.
